We understand that loved ones who depend upon the assistance of others to carry out the activities of daily living require special consideration. In addition to the guidelines provided in this site, the following information will help make care for the patient easier:
Consent
The legal guardian must sign the consent for procedure and anesthesia on or before the day of the surgery or procedure.
Admission
Please bring the patient’s most recent health history and medication information or complete the online registration.
Personal Attendant
As with other patients, special needs patients require a parent, legal guardian or another responsible adult to remain at the center from admission through recovery. A personal attendant will be required to stay with the patient for 24 hours after discharge.
Guide pet For patients using guide animals:
Due to infection control concerns, Guide animals will remain in the lobby area with family members. The patient When the patient goes to the preop area, he/she will be under the care of the RN and Physician.
Drink
Please follow all food and drink fasting instructions provided to you by your physician.
Prep
Each physician prescribes different preps with and unique instructions. The center does not know what type of prep or the instructions prescribed, therefore we, cannot answer questions regarding the prep. Please contact your physician directly with any questions regarding your prep.
Parental Care
We require at least one parent to remain in the center during the procedure and recovery. Please do not bring other young children along. If your child’s procedure is scheduled near noon, you may want to bring a lunch for yourself while you are waiting.
Personal Comforts
Please bring your child’s favorite blanket, stuffed animal or toy for added security.
After the Procedure
You will be able to be with your child as soon as he/she is awake and medically safe for transfer after recovery.
